Farex Rice Cereal:
There are very good reasons why a Rice Cereal is recommended as baby's first food:
- Farex rice cereal is iron enriched and is a good source of iron. Iron is essential for normal growth and development for a healthy baby. Baby’s own iron stores begin to deplete at around 6 months of age, therefore offering iron-rich complementary foods are very important to boost baby’s iron stores.
- Rice cereal has a mild neutral flavour and mixes easily with baby's usual milk or cooled boiled water
- Because of the simple recipe with rice as the main ingredient, Farex rice cereal may be mixed with other first foods e.g. fruits and vegetables, to provide an extra iron boost.
More than just a cereal…
Farex rice cereal can also be added to other foods as a thickener.
Unlike cornflour, Farex Cereals do not require heating to be used as a thickener for baby foods that are too runny or for thickening casserole style meals. This is because Farex cereals are specially formulated, pre-cooked cereals which readily absorb excess water.

Why is iron so important?
- Iron is essential for normal growth and development
- Iron helps to transport oxygen around the body.
- Babies are born with a natural store of iron but this starts to deplete from birth.
- From 6-12 months, it is particularly important to ensure there are adequate amounts of iron as it is at this age there is rapid growth and development
- Breastmilk or infant formula alone is not an adequate source of iron for babies older than 6 months. It is around this stage that complementary foods, such as Farex rice cereals which are high in iron, should be introduced.
Storage:
For Farex Cereals, store in a cool dry place and use within 3-4 weeks of opening.
